RiVR Streams

We've posted two video streams, to show you what the RiVR can do.

The first shows the difference the RiVR video light makes. As it is an LED light, the 'bulbs' should never burn out, and it runs on two AAA-batteries.

The second video is more subtle, in that in the first scene the iPhone is held horizontally by the corners. The video is a bit more jumpy than when using the RiVR, but it's not a huge difference as this is not a steady-cam setup. It's more important that the iPhone is now held securely so it is much less likely to slip out of your fingers. And obviously this is the preferred way to shoot an iPhone video if you have gloves on or are riding a roller coaster.

RiVR Views

The two pictures below are the front and back view of a prototype cradle for the iPhone - RiVR. Currently planned for the 3G/3GS, it allows for greater stability during video recording, along with an added video light for low-light conditions and high quality microphone.

Right now - as it is still in prototype form - we are soliciting some market research. Both surveys are at right, and we would appreciate an answer.

The first is whether you would want this cradle for the original iPhone. As that model does not do video recording unless you use Cycorder (which hasn't been updated for a while), you tell us if many of you shoot video on this model.

The second is whether you want additional lenses, and if you want just a telephoto or wide angle as well. As this will add to the price by about $20 - $40, again let us know.

We don't have a final price yet, but it will be more than a refurbished 1Phone 3G.

RiVR Flowing Your Way

Later this week there will be some prototype photos posted of a new iPhone product to be available soon - the RiVR.

RiVR stands for Rollins iPhone Video Rig. Designed to cradle the iPhone securely, it has a handle for stability and an accessory light for those low- to no-light situations (and maybe accessory lenses if we can cram them in).

It will dramatically improve video quality (and even still photos too), in a compact, inexpensive package.

Plans are to offer it for the original iPhone, but primarily for the iPhone 3G and 3GS.

Note that for video recording on the iPhone 3G, you need iPhoneVideoRecorder3G.
Note that for video recording on the original iPhone you need Cycorder.

Oh, and to install these your iPhone must be jailbroken.

And be aware that according to Apple, if you jailbreak your iPhone you could end civilization as we know it, or at least violate the DMCA.
